about CWS Colorado Watercolor Society

The Colorado Watercolor Society is an organization dedicated to uphold the highest standards and principles of art and to promote, encourage, educate and foster an interest in fine art in all media, especially watermedia.

Our Beginnings
This is the 54th year of the Colorado Watercolor Society. The Colorado Watercolor Society was organized as an art group by Walter O. Green and his wife, Olive, in October 1954 with the purpose of promoting all fine arts, especially watermedia. The Society's first President was Irma Greenawalt, 1954-1957, and it held its first public exhibition at the Mile High Center of Denver in 1957. In l968 the Colorado Watercolor Society was incorporated and in 1995 a registered trademark status was obtained for the CWS logo.

Our Activities.
The Society sponsors three annual juried shows, which include the State Watercolor Exhibition, New Trends Watercolor Show (experimental techniques) and an Annual Members Show. In 1997 the Colorado Watercolor Society became a member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, thus allowing our members to enter its annual show.  The San Diego Watercolor Society at the NTC Promenade at Point Loma’s Liberty Station, 2825 Dewey Road, Suite 105, San Diego, California, will host the WFWS34 Exhibition, May 1 - 31, 2009. CWS regularly displays paintings at a variety of locations in the seven county metro area. A variety of workshops are held each year and are open to all interested persons.  In 2009 the following workshops will be held, Mark E. Mehaffey, in April and Ted Nuttall in October.

Colorado Watercolor Society is a 501 (c) (3) organization.

As a service to the community, the Society donates to Foothills Art Center in Golden, and other worthy art-oriented projects in the State. Each year some members donate paintings to the Channel Six Auction.
